5 games in my backlog right now

One of my biggest weaknesses as a gamer is the backlog. Honestly, it’s not even just gaming; I get stuck in so many ways starting things and coming up with new ideas and then just completely forgetting about them before I get them done. Just ask my poor husband about all the half-complete crochet projects lying around our living room.

Lately, though, I’ve been trying to make more of an effort to get in and wrap things up when I start them. It started with the assorted yarn projects and now, I’m thinking about how I can get in and clear out the gaming backlog, too.

Even if only so I can add more to it when I’m done.

So here’s what’s living in my backlog, and what I’m hoping to play soon!

Stardew Valley

I didn’t originally want to play Stardew Valley when it first came out because there was a part of me that was mad that it looked like a rip-off of Harvest Moon, but at the same time, I was somewhat interested in it for that exact reason.

Between the pixel art and the perpetual weeding problem on the farm, it does remind me quite a lot of original Harvest Moon, which I absolutely did not play at one point on a laptop with an emulator because I didn’t have another way of playing it. There’s something about the classic design that I really love.

It also doesn’t hurt that I’m obsessed with how easy it is to make pixel designs with crochet, and I keep seeing the Stardew Valley chicken on things like cushions, which just makes me want to play it even more.

I did start playing this together with a friend a little while ago, but that fell off, and I haven’t really gotten back to it since. So I’m looking to change that soon!

Hogwarts Legacy

After our ill-fated initial adventures with this game, where Shane’s computer was pretty badly affected by the graphics issues at launch, it’s been hard to motivate myself to get back into it.

Obviously, this game is the ultimate way to get into the world of Harry Potter, something I’ve always wanted to do. I still remember waiting for my Hogwarts letter around my eleventh birthday, and how could I forget using my late-90s hair crimper to turn myself into a very accurate first-movie Hermione for Halloween one year?

And ever since I finally got my own Hogwarts letter from Platform 9¾ on our trip to London last year, I haven’t been able to get the idea of my own Hogwarts adventure out of my mind.

Sea of Stars

In all honesty, I don’t know a ton about this game, but ever since one of my writer friends at work suggested it, it’s been in my Xbox list waiting for me to try it out.

From what I know, it’s a turn-based RPG style like the classic games of my childhood era. It does look like a cute little story, so I’m excited to get to it! Maybe it’ll be next after I tackle some of my cozy games.

Palia

This game has been a popular one both around Twitch and around my friend circle since it came out, and I won’t lie, the idea of a crafting-first MMO-type game is incredibly appealing. I’ve seen a bit of the gameplay, and I have definitely envisioned what I could build for my own little home.

My biggest holdup has been the debate of whether I really want to get myself into another MMO, given how much time I’ve dedicated to Final Fantasy XIV over the years. I’m a little concerned I won’t resurface!

Moonglow Bay

I’ve had this one downloaded forever, and keep meaning to try it out. I remember seeing it on Instagram the longest time ago, and I just loved the art style of it. When I looked into it, too, I realized that it’s got a lot of similarities to the Island of Happiness and Sunshine Island adventures for Harvest Moon.

It looks like a really neat, calm sort of game; a fishing-based adventure where you rebuild your home in a slow-paced way. It would go perfectly with a quiet Sunday morning!

  1. Being part of the cozy gaming community has made my backlog SO much worse! I love SDV, its a really chill game and its easy to get caught up in the NPCs lives. Palia is the same way, Im utterly obsessed with Palia for so many reasons. I was a bit disappointed with Hogwarts& it seemed like a good concept but it just didnt keep my attention.

Right now I have Harvestella, Death or Treat, Hades (which I keep going back and forth on) and replying Kingdom Hearts on my Steam Deck!
